Port of Veracruz is strengthened with two new terminals: Asipona

The port of Veracruz strengthens its infrastructure for the constant growth and development of the maritime port industry.

The Veracruz National Port System Administration (Asipona) reported that on February 22, Puertos Logísticos de México, S.A. de C.V., a member of Grupo CICE, obtained a favorable ruling for the construction, equipment and operation of a Mixed Cargo Terminal and, in addition, announced that it is working on the following tender for the award of a port facility for the handling of automobiles that will allow the provision of the shunting service.

The port authority highlighted that Puertos Logísticos de México presented the best offer, being awarded a contract for the partial assignment of rights and obligations in Bahía Norte, the expanded area of the Veracruz port, with a validity of 20 years and extendable for 20 more years, for the use , use and exploitation of an area of 18.3 hectares that includes a water front of 550 linear meters.

The company will be able to carry out container operations in semi-specialized maneuvering, general cargo and mineral bulk, as well as maneuvering, handling, storage and custody services for foreign trade merchandise within the Mixed Cargo Terminal.

Regarding the issue of the specialized terminal for the automotive industry, Asipona Veracruz affirmed that the port is the first place at the national level in the handling of import and export vehicles, with more than 850 thousand units per year, currently having seven docking positions. for automotive cargo ships, in addition to having the most competitive rates in the country in this sector.

In addition, he stressed that the privileged geographical location of the port of Veracruz, together with the land and rail connectivity, allows the generation of ideal conditions for the transfer of cargo to its extensive area of influence inside and outside the country.

Last year, the port of Veracruz handled a total of 34,262,585 tons of cargo, 6.9% more than a year earlier, according to data from the Secretary of the Navy.
