Grants announced for U.S. ports and supply chain corridors

As part of the White House’s strategy to reduce emissions in the freight industry, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced a grant program for ports and supply chain corridors.

16 port-centric projects are to receive close to $150 million from the Reduction of Truck Emissions at Port Facilities program. Aimed at improving air quality and modernizing areas close to commercial ports, the investment will save truck drivers time and will help ports reduce congestion, and therefore emissions.

In addition, the Environmental Protection Agency will provide close to $1 billion in funding to assist cities, states, and tribal agencies in the transition to a zero-emission outlook, by supporting infrastructure to charge, fuel, and maintain heavy-duty green vehicles.

The Department of Energy also announced an investment for the cause. $72 million will establish a program to facilitate affordable and reliable charging infrastructure.
